LINEAGE and HONORS
The 202d Military Intelligence Battalion, or Deuce, was activated at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, on 2 October 1982 as a subordinate element of the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade. The units
comprising the Deuce have a long and distinguished history of service to the nation, including participation in the Pacific Theater of World War II, the Korean conflict, Vietnam, and Operations
DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM and RESTORE HOPE. Since its activation in 1982, the Deuce has developed into an Eechelons Above Corps battalion capable of rapid deployment into a bare base, hostile
environment to provide theater-level sustained counterintelligence and interrogation support for U.S. ARCENT and U.S. CENTCOM forces. Our focus is on Southwest Asia, a challenging and complex
area of the world. The Deuce's participation in the Bright Star series of exercises in 1985, 1987, 1989, 1992, and 1993; and in the Gallant Eagle exercises in 1986 and 1988 have added realism to
training by defining missions and requirements for operations. The Deuce's participation in Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM in 1990-1991 reinforced the meaning of its motto, "Collect
and Exploit," by providing timely, quality interrogation and multidisciplined counterintelligence support to the warfighter. Successful participation in Operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia placed
the Deuce in the forefront of Human Intelligence Collection in Operations Other than War. The Deuce's honors include the Defense of Saudi Arabia Battle Streamer, the Liberation of Kuwait Battle
Streamer, the Meritorious Unit Citation for operations during DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM, the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation for 1991, 1992, and 1993, and the Army Superior
Unit Award. The Deuce today is the culmination of many outstanding leaders, years of experience, and the dedication and efforts of thousands of soldiers. On 1 June 1994, the Deuce's colors were
uncased at Fort Gordon, Georgia, its new home."DEUCE FOR LIFE" |
